About Margo L. Johnson, RN, PhD

Initially my career goal was engineering, but after reading an introduction to biofeedback published in the 70’s called New Mind, New Body written by Barbara Brown, I changed direction to healthcare. I am continually impressed by biofeedback’s and neurofeedback’s elegant utility in response to many health problems and its ability to access the mind/body connection to enhance the quality of our lives. I opened Biofeedback and Neurofeedback Services in the spring of 2003.

In the beginning my first opportunity to explore biofeedback was working with one of the early researchers in the field of biofeedback at the University of Washington . Later while providing nursing services for the Pain Management Program at Swedish Hospital I graduated from an RNB program through Seattle Pacific University.

The University Of Washington School of Nursing accepted me into their doctoral program in 1995. There I pursued my interest in biofeedback, neurofeedback and sleep disturbances accompanying chronic pain. My research fellowship training was sponsored by the National Institute of Nursing Research, a division of NIH. The finished product was a doctoral research project entitled: A Comparison of Biofeedback and Neurofeedback for Sleep Disturbance Accompanying Chronic Pain.

Professional Background

For nearly 30 years I have been providing biofeedback training and nursing services. I have enjoyed working with injured workers as part of interdisciplinary treatment in both outpatient and inpatient settings. I have also provided biofeedback training for stress management clinics and an addiction treatment center. I have taught stress management for an eating disorders program. As the field of neurofeedback became more accessible to the clinician I added to my experience learning about and working with individuals experiencing ADHD, PTSD and peak performance in sports, the arts and business.

Margo L. Johnson, RN, PhD

From the Biofeedback Certification Institute of America I have attained certification as a Senior Fellow for General Biofeedback and Fellow for Neurofeedback.

I am member of the Association of Applied Psychophysiology and Biofeedback. During the healthcare reform of the 90's as president of the Biofeedback Society of Washington I helped lead the organization's involvement. I am past member of the Rehabilitation Interest Group.

The Northwest is my home and were I have participated in sailing, hiking and occasionally mountain climbing.
